Chickenpox is an illness that is common among children below the age of 12. Chicken pox brings out itchy red spots that can look like a rash. Often chickenpox may also bring out flu like systems in the child also.
Chicken pox is cause by the varicella-zoster virus. Children can be protected by using the varicella vaccine. This is done usually between the ages of 12 to 15 months. It is recommended that the child receives a further booster shot between the ages of 4 to 6 years for it to continue to be effective.
Whooping cough is also known as pertussis. It is an infection that causes severe coughing. A vaccine is now available however before this was available whopping cough caused between 5,000 to 10,000 deaths each year in the U.S alone. After the vaccine was made available this has helped bring the deaths down to 30.
Today, the number of Whooping cough cases is now on the increase. There are many reasons for this including the number of immunizations falling. American Academy of Pediatrics has recommended that children between the ages of 11 to 12 receive a booster shot to increase their defense to Whooping cough.
